Title: Fellowes shredder
Post by: horsepooisgood on July 29, 2010, 19:31
What ever you do shy away from a fellowes shredder.

I have had mine for about 4 years and only use it occasionally. Today it jammed an broke a nylon cog.

I phoned Fellowes only to be told they do not make spare parts for them and never have. Apparently it would push the cost of the shredder up if they had to keep parts and train engineers to fit them. It just slides on a shaft and the two gears engage with other cogs.

Looked on the web only to find lots of people complaining of the same thing.

You have been warned!!

What - they don't make spare parts????? Push the cost up????? Train engineers??? All  together now - is it meeeeeee? I've never heard of a Fellowes' shredder but I got a Viking one - part of Stihl - (see previous thread from me somewhere on here) after getting a petrol very heavy jobbie that I couldn't handle and didn't do the job. I love my "Ethelshred" as all I do is grab a good handful of prunings - rose stuff, hawthorn whips, twiggy bits or dogwood stems and thrust them into the goodly-sized aperture in the top and they come out the bottom shredded. Ok - the shreds may be too coarse for some people and sometimes long, thin slivers come out hardly shredded but it can always be put in again. I've got a builder's bag of shreddings from last year that I am going to put on the soil as a mulch. I picked up a handful the other day and it smelt glorious! The other builder's bag I have is for this year's spring stuff which is reducing in height and will have all my hawthorn hedge pruning put in soon. The local supplier let me try a demo at home - sold to one very happy person!  :)

I've had two of these "Fellows" paper shredders.......both failed after not much use!
They are a complete waste of money!
