potatoes
« on: August 05, 2010, 18:54 »
Hello All

Please can anyone tell me why every potatoe I dig up and cook ends up going to mash or even boils away in the water. This applies to all the verieties I have tried. I have also tried steaming them and cooking them on a very low heat.

They still end up being a mashy pulp which is useless.

Kind Regards

Richard

Welcome to the site Bladerunner  :D

I'll move your post over to the Cooking Storing Preserving section as that's what it's about  :)  Feel free to pop back into the Welcome forum to introduce yourself and get a proper welcome.

There's been a thread on your question recently.  The general consensus is that this happens when cooking them too long, particularly when boiled (though I notice you say you've tried steaming them too).

Newly dug spuds take less time to cook than those a few days old.  Try cooking them for less time, or leave them a few days before cooking them.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
