Mountfield Monarch M1 Grass deck belts?
« on: June 09, 2013, 18:46 »
Hi Everybody,

I've just registered on allotment.org , and found this 6 year old thread.

http://chat.allotment-garden.org/index.php?PHPSESSID=57227990ca8ebf6a51829c4af58271e5&topic=5709.msg66617#msg66617

I have an identical Mountfield Monarch M1 to that shown in Taildragon's pictures.

Mine has a 5hp B+S engine and the whole machine is still going strong.,

I also have the grass cutting deck attachment that I need to find new belts for. I have no idea what the correct size is because the old ones have been lost, but they are definitely different to the tiller belts for the same machine. I've tried A22 belts which I can reasonably comfortably fit onto the machine but are a little too long and slip and fail very quickly as a result. This is even with the idler adjustment as tight as possible.  The belt is almost pushed across to the return side but still slips.

I doubt that I could fit A21 size over the pulleys without damaging them. I have followed a method for determining the belt size I found on a belt suppliers web site but this is inconclusive as its some thing between 21" and 22" but I do not know how much to allow for the clutch action. I have proven that 22" is not right though.

I have downloaded scans of the parts list and operating manual from this site, a very big THANK YOU!.

Does any now how I can find out what the correct size is? I found some  Mountfield part numbers in the parts list I downloaded earlier but I'm not sure which M1 model I have, as the belt part number is related to model year.

How can I find out which year mine is? My machine still has its serial number plate on it.

Not that this will help much as I doubt I will be  able to order it by Mountfield part number! Is there such a thing as an A21.5 belt, this size seems to be listed on some USA web sites but not in the UK.?

Any help much appreciated.

Thank you

xx
