Hi,

I have a patch at the back and of my allotment that is just rubble, weeds, broken bricks and a general dumping ground (from the previous owner I must add!) There used to be a huge plum tree by all accounts, but that was chopped down before I got there. However, its roots remain and have spread far and wide. There are also dozens of suckers.

I'm planning to put down some wild flower seeds - I think poppies will do well there as I suspect the soil is not great!

Anyone got any suggestions for suitable plants  - something that will do well in poor conditions and will be able to put up a good fight against the roots and weeds? Ideally flowers that will attract butterflies and bees and (being a girl!) something bright and pretty!

What about herbs too mixed in, some herbs have very pretty flowers. They seem to thrive on being unloved as i do noting with my herb bed at all. No water, no feed, no shelter and they still keep growing. Mixed in with other bits maybe rather pretty
