I thought you were telling us how many lbs of slugs and snails collected :)
You seem convinced they are helping, thought it was all about slugs and snails, not worms.
I'm not sure Id want to store or put that much down, my family and neighbours would be quizzing me about the smell.

Hi L, I collect the grounds in large bags supplied by Saisburys so no smell there but they don't really smell anyway. I have mentioned before about the video (a farm for the future) and the impact it had on my life, in one scene a tractor pulling a plough and not one bird to be seen anywhere, the soil was dead, which makes me believe the more worms fungi bacteria etc the better chance I have of growing healthy veg, death to slugs long live the worms :D, Dave
Today i will be mainly wearing no trousers

Last winter my red wigglers were like they were on acid in the compost bin, they love coffee grounds - I need to get some more as I have now used my stock pile up. I wonder if slow worms love them as much as red wigglers?

Slow worms like nice warm compost heaps where they can bask amongst the steaming compost and snack on slugs at will

I saw in your diary that you had spotted one on your new plot.  I get them on the plot as well and always enjoy seeing them when I open the compost bins.  They look so content :)

So are they always on the top of the heap or the dalek ? As I would hate to spear one when emptying or turning

They bask on the top over the summer, but disappear down if disturbed.  You should see them go.

I have never found one deep in the heap either over the summer or hibernating over the winter, but my plot is right next to the boundary, where they have hedge plants, trees, fallen branches and lots of leaf and plant debris to burrow in.

Sorry me dear, no offence intended.  This is a big forum site and I don't have time to read everything.  I came to this topic late in its life and was puzzled by it.  I would be interested to know what it's about without having to dredge though loads of back posts.
