Homebrew Kits and Demijohns
« on: April 20, 2009, 21:24 »
Hi all,

Am looking to make some home made lager and having done a search on the net there seems to be a wide variety of choice.

Am tempted to invest in a Coopers Austrlian Lager kt which costs about £60 all in but can anyone recommend a good start up kit?

I've also been presnted with 4 glass Demijohns but don't know where to start. I have ni bungs or anything like that just the Demijohns so any advice/recipies welcome.....OH likes Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon wines so can these be used for that or could I even make some lager in them?

I know nothing about beer making i'm afraid as im not a beer drinker, but i can help you on the wine.

I would recommend getting a 6-bottle starter kit to set you off. Wilkos have some kits, although they arent the best, kind of middle range. The better ones are californian conniseur or beaverdale. Apart from the kit and demi john you will need a bung and airlock, some sterilisation powder, a siphon pipe and then some plastic corks for your bottles if you dont use screw cap bottles. maybe also a long spoon and a demi john cleaning brush.

All the instructions are in the kit and its an easy introduction!!

Good luck!!!

Head to Wilkinsons

A good kit to get you started.

I would also advise on using the brewing sugar as I find that you get a better head etc.
