Does anyone know how to sharpen a hedge trimmer?  Both me and my dad have basic electric hedge trimmers that are now getting a bit blunt.  They leave twiggy bits sticking out of the hedge.
We have both tried but cannot figure out a way to do it.
Is it possible? Do we need to take them somewhere? Or do we just have to buy new ones, which seems such a waste.

i think but am not sure but i think you use a metal file just enough to take the edge of to make them sharp.

Yep, you can use a metal file on the blades, or on of those small electric grinders ( dremmel? ) or take them to your local garden machinery workshop for sharpning.

I did my basic electric trimmer with a file, the blades were really in a mess beforehand. Its time consuming tho, mine have 64 teeth in total! the blades no longer leave as many "shredded" privet twigs sticking out the hedge.
