Free TV Catch Up
« on: February 01, 2020, 20:46 »
I looked this up, and saw I had to open a BBC account, which I have done, why ?
I only have free-view and the regular programmes, although I do have a recorder.  I still thought I should be able to do it - WRONG.
I do not have a mobile 'phone, and bbc account keeps on about pressing an app, where is the app ?  Do I now use my TV guide remote ?
I am soooo technophobic, I think maybe I shall have to stick to my daily/weekly recordings,  unless, of course, you can give me a very simple idiots guide.    ::) ::), thanks, Mrs Bouquet

Search for BBC i-player on your lap-top and sign in there, then you can watch whatever you fancy, give it a go :)
It's the  same with ITV find the ITV hub for their programmes.

does that mean I have to watch it on the laptop ?    I am not sure I understand how I watch something I missed yesterday on BBC 1 on the actual TV.    Also I must have the sub-titles, because I cannot hear.  ::) thanks

To get catch up via Freeview, you need a Freeview Play box, or a TV that has Freeview Play built in. This is as opposed to just plain Freeview.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

If you have neither a recorder like the BT Youview box, nor a Smart TV, it may be possible to connect your laptop to your TV to watch i-player programmes on the larger screen.

If you have the manuals for your TV and laptop you should be able to find out whether they both have HDMI ports. If so, a TV retailer will be able to advise which cable you need to connect them together.

(There are other possible ways of doing it, but connecting via HDMI is the easiest.)

Thanks to you all yet again.  Now I know why I have been having a problem.  my TV is too old to have catch-up built in, so I need one of those boxes.    As I have got my recorded, which has still got things on from Christmas  ::)  I think i'll make do and wait until the TV needs replacing.   Hopefully not in my lift-time, can you imagine me getting to grips with that.  !!!!!   Thanks again,  Mrs Bouquet

In the meantime, you could use your laptop for anything you really fancy watching, you can get subtitles there as well :)

Mrs B, if you can afford go & get one, it’s so easy to use, you can even get YouTube on it ,you can watch lots of gardening related blogs etc & anything else you are interested in. Surely a member of your family would help you. And remember as I said to my mum when I helped her replace her tv have bigger than you think as (your eyes aren’t going to get any better) ! She said 2 days later you were right! Which was amazing in itself! She even said I could have had a bit bigger still & the picture is brilliant.

Yet more sound advice.   Unfortunately, I don't have any family members to help, and my friends are about as good as I am  :(    But I will hold the idea of getting the next size up when I do have to replace, and I shall get my "computer tutor" to help me (he does tv's as well)   thanks,   Mrs B

I think going back to your original post, Mrs B, yes you do need to have a BBC account to access iPlayer.  You just use a standard email address - you don't need a new one.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

When I went to open the account, it was not happy with my regular email and the password I used.    So I have tried a different password, so now I am fully signed up.    :D  thanks,   Mrs B
