[No green fingers!!!]

Hi everyone,

We signed up for our allotment today, it's quite overgrown but it has a blackberry bush, an apricot tree and a plum tree so we'll get something!! What should we try growing, we are assured the soil is good and most stuff will grow here but what is easy? Just to wet our toes!

Hi and welcome to the forum 

I would suggest you try a few things so you experience a variety of growing methods :

Early potatoes as they usually miss any blight and taste brilliant when freshly dug
Some onion sets and some leeks
Climbing beans of some sort - runner beans or french beans, whichever you like most
A couple of root crops like beetroots or carrots
If you like greens, chard or perpetual spinach are easy and go on for months
Sweetcorn - fresh picked is nothing like shop bought
Squash or pumpkin, just because producing a big show off veggie like that really makes you feel like a successful grower
