Title: Best Petrol Strimmer ?
Post by: woodentop on April 17, 2007, 19:10
I recently posted about troubles with my Robin strimmmer - I found the problem eventually - broken inlet manifold.  I now need a new one as it probably isn't repairable and seek advice on getting another.I know Honda are the best but they are very expensive and I don't have a lot of work to justify it. My main criteria is easy starting ! I hate McCulloch stuff and have been looking at Ryobi electronic ignition range ( £130 ish ) - any good ?

If you have a good easy starter please let me know. Thanks.

you wont go far wrong with a stihl and if you ever need any spares then its very easy to get them.
and get this, they do an attachment now to make there brush cutter into a cultivator a bit like the mantis http://www.worldofpower.co.uk/acatalog/SITHL_Combi_attachments.html
there not cheap but i think they are the best,
Ive got a partner brushcutter and thats not bad at all but not a patch on a stihl,
like anything you only get what you pay for

I agree with Shaun, I don't think you can beat a Stihl. Mine is about 15 to 20 years old and still (stihl?) works a treat. It always starts after a couple of pulls and the only problem I had with it was a blocked fuel filter in the fuel tank. There is a knack to starting 2 stroke strimmers and chain saws.
I was told by an old Pro toput the choke on and turn it until it coughed once then take the choke off and it should start. If you leave the choke on after it has fired once it will flood and you'l never start it without taking out the plug and drying it. Best of luck.

sthil are very good.
but have a look at the strimmers at northern tools, before parting with any cash. :D
i think that they could well be zenoah komatsu (been making them for years) :D
