Having looked on Which? website and other review sites I am still struggling to find one that has two tanks (one for dirty water and one for clean), not too heavy, and that will do a deep clean on 80% wool carpets, Anyone on here have any advice?

My Mum bought a Vax one, and it ticks all those boxes. They have sales on a regular basis (usually mentioned on the MSE site), which reduces the price considerably. :-)

I've looked at reviews for Bissell (maybe a build quality issue) and Vax which I'm swaying towards now. Which model does your mum have as there are several.

I bought a Bissell Cleanview a few months ago. It seems fine to me. Effective, easy to use and quite inexpensive

I have a Vax rapide XL upright thing - it's anything but light. It does an alright job of cleaning up a spill but doesn't do well cleaning by the front door or high traffic areas. I think the domestic cleaners lack the oomph of real ones, if its just a now and again task GG why not hire one , you'll get a much better machine for less money.

I can't remember tbh GG, but I usually read Amazon reviews when I like the look of something. I've just had the MSE preview email and it looks like there's a clearance sale on now - only a couple of carpet cleaners in the sale (there's usually a wide range, some at really low prices), but may be worth a look. :)

I bought a vax 4yrs ago,the one for people with pets,it was much cheaper because the box was broken,i think i paid £110,really easy to use and very effecttive,as when we had to move from one rented house you had to get a carpet cleaning company in!!,so i did the job myself, the landlords we have were very impressed with the job i did,so i was happy :).
I read alot of reviews before i bought it and this was the one customers gave a 5 star rating.

I saw that as a Best Buy on Which? but one reviewer said that after contacting the firm it wasn't suitable for carpets with a high wool content. I will give Bissell a ring and see.

It's possible that the Bissell cleaners have improved in later years, but the one I used to have didn't really get enough water out of the carpets, and they remained quite wet for several days.
