Hello All

Just wanted to share this with you all. Please excuse my excitement but i am new to all of this.

I picked up 3 ex batts on saturday and within the hour they were out picking at grass. They look a bit shabby but seem quite happy.

Then on Sunday morning they presented me with this!

I hope they like their new home. As i have never had hens before and no woodworking experience i decided to build them their house myself!

Thanks to everyone on here who has given me advice or answered my dumb questions.

Also thanks to Michelle at BHWT and Carly. I hope i give the girls the retirement they deserve.

Thanks again

Woody

that looks idyllic for them. Are you going to let them out onto the grass once they get acclimatised  :D
Great house and run by the way. Looks FAB  :D

Lovely house and run!  They look relieved to be with you. :)  I'm sure they'll start looking a bit sleeker as they settle in.

Thanks for all your kind comments. I didn't have a plan or any measurements, i just looked at pictures and thanks to the kind advice from this forum i made it up as i went along. The run is temporary but i am in the process of building a run to attach to the front of the house. i was just attaching the door as the thunderstorm started on monday afternoon. Once they are settled they will be allowed to free range and there is plenty of grass and a wooded area for them to scratch around in but i want to have an enclosed area where they can still pick the grass but i know they are safe. If anyone is interested i'll post some more pictures when it is finished.

Foxy, I got them from the BHWT but due to me clicking on too many links i did nearly end up with 3 others from North London Rescue the following day! Thanks to Michelle and Carly it was resolved.

Thanks again, i'm so glad i found this forum

Woody, that's brilliant! You should give up the day job and sell chook houses

i don't think i could sell them for what it cost me to build although i do think i probably over engineered it a bit. I wanted to make it as solid as possible but it weighs a ton!

I'll put some more pictures up when it's done

I'll second that. We bought one very similar 2 years ago and paid £100 for it, and OH had to go to the UK to pick it up.
Get making and sell them on Ebay.  Fantastic.

Love your new girlies too by the way.
