Oh well, used Humane Killer yesterday first time to despatch a hen, know it had to be done but not easy to see with tears rolling down your face is it?
Does this get any easier?   :(
Hooked on chooks !

sorry but I find it doesn't  :(, however the only thing you can do is take comfort that your bird is no longer suffering xxx

Well done for putting your own feelings second and doing what was best for the hen, not pleasant but it shows you are truly a good poultry keeper.
With luck you will not need to do it enough for it to become easy.

I'm with 8doubles on this one!  You were brilliant to do the deed even though it was heart breaking.  It is never, ever easy to lose a hen.  You have my sympathy and I wish you many years of healthy, happy hens in your future.
When I die I will slide in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand and chocolate in the other, screaming, "Whooo hooo!  What a ride!" as life is to be enjoyed to the fullest!

it can get easier in time if you have to dispatch a lot of birds you tend to get a bit hardened to it but i hope you never have to dispatch enough to find out we had to dispatch the cockerals at work ready for market and it can still get to me even now i had to do the deed to 3 of mine a couple of weeks ago that got to me a bit because they were my own and not bred for the market
