Bay tree cuttings.
« on: May 11, 2008, 19:43 »
Hi everyone i've just been giving a cutting  off a bay leaf tree. I was wondering if anyone had an organic method of starting of a root system.
My parents in law suggested using root powder to start off, but i'm trying to be as organic as possible.

Any advice but be amazing.

Thanks in advance

A cutting, A cutting   Very mean, as good old GH liked to put it if you need 3 take 10, rough quote, might even be someone else.

Anyhow, I never use powder, keep cuttings moist and for that reason somewhere shady and be patient. Very patient. Sometimes even more patient.

Thanks Gobs.

Well a big cutting that i can split into three i think lol
All i could get at the moment, my in laws are trying to grow another lot of trees and that was the left over one.
  i'm a thieving beggar!

So could i just put the cuttings into a peat pot with ordinary compost from B & Q and just water it? Oh and how shady?

Stupid question i know

Well, it just occurred to me, might not be such a great time for cuttings, as they are flowering, mine are anyhow. good luck with it anyway.

Try again end of summer, maybe, if no luck? They can take for several months mind, on the extreme. :)

Pinch out the flower buds if they have any.
I demand the right to buy seed of varieties that are not "distinct, uniform and stable".
