Yes it's always hard to have to slaughter them.  They are real characters with a lot of intelligence and become much more tame and trusting than chickens do.  I'm not looking forward to that aspect either.

You have my utmost respect HF, especially as unlike chickens, you dont have huge numbers to raise, so they are bound to get to be a bit special to you. I just know I couldnt do it, Id dearly love to have a few lambs/sheep on our top field which is just going to waste, but I know that I couldnt send them to slaughter, and OH has always vehemently said that he could never eat any animal that we have raised.
So fair play to you, your birds look lovely, though Im not keen on turkeys to look at fully grown, its that dangly bit at the front I cant stand!!

I realise it's not supposed to be funny, but I have just spent a couple of minutes wiping wine off my monitor that I spewed out with a huge guffaw of laughter when I read that line - so many thoughts sprang to mind  :D

Dont think i need to worry over the fertility of my cockerels, this little lot walked out of the cattle yard yesterday.  :)
