Ok my next challenge next year is to grow my own meat( chicken) any advice much appreciated as always thankyou

I went with ross Cobb's Grannie  :)

What sort of dead weights did you get Sparky?   Our supplier of day olds said that Ross's had been having trouble with their birds.  For a while you couldn't get enough of them and they were coming up smaller weights.

We didn't have any this year as the freezer still has a lot of turkeys in it and Brian can't mak up his mind if he wants to do the meat chickens anymore!

These are some of our earlier ones.

I think just over 11lbs dressed weight was my best ! But it was several years ago I haven't bothered for a few years now  ;)

I had a couple of the French hens get to over 14lbs undressed (@ 19 weeks), Since there's only me, I started slaughtering much sooner, at about 12-13 weeks, and I was still getting 6-7lb dressed weight

I really miss having the chickens in the garden, though I may be hatching a plan for next year... :)

That's a good weight!
at the time i a had a very good boss who paid for the food for 30 birds as part of my annual bonus 65p a pound was well worth having then ,but we are going back 35 years  :)
