Title: Sudden Death!!
Post by: bedifferent on August 06, 2008, 18:40
Eric, my lovely fluffy poland cockerel was found dead today in the nest box. Nothing wrong prior that i could see. Not a mark on him. Stone cold dead. He was only 16 weeks old. What could have happened??

Big hugs from over here. So sorry and cant offer any explanation but can tell you that the same as happened here. I had 2 lovely Poland chicks that got to about 5-6 weeks and then the same thing, they died, no explanation

Poor Eric, let him cock-a-doodle in peace.

Sending very big hugs here, it must of been quite a shock to discover him like that. I'm sorry for your loss, i hope you get a brand new and friendly cockerel soon. Will you get another? Poland?

There's also something called "Sudden Death Syndrome (flip over disease)".

A seemingly healthy bird has a convulsion and is often found dead on its back.  The reason is not known but thought to be metabolic.

When I first joined the site and started reading 'The Hen House' I really wanted some but now I've been here six months or so I've realised that I really do not have the time, work six days a week, 8 am to 6 pm, probably more as it's our own business. I don't think it would be fair on them because it would only be a 'flying visit' every day.  I'll just sit here and share all yours.
