First frost
« on: August 25, 2010, 12:23 »
Hi.

I know this varies depending on where in the country you are, but was just wondering when you were all expecting your first frosts??
Start at the beginning, and finish at the end!!

have a look at this site, if you put your post code in, it gives you some idea
http://www.gardenaction.co.uk/main/weather.asp

I don't know if anybody else has used it but they are not far off the mark for my garden :)

Supposed to be down to +6 or 7 tonight in this neck of the woods so it won't be long now and certainly well before the end of October. Trouble is every year is different so looking at averages isn't really much use. Watch the forecast and get ready with the fleece!

Doesn't bode well for ripening off the tomatoes, does it.

Doesn't seem like five minutes since we were discussing the last frost dates this year!  :(

I think the last frost dates shown on Mum's link were thought to be a bit optimistic, but of course they are averages which probably reflect the milder climate over the last decade or so.

Last winter and this spring changed all that; who can possibly confidently predict what this autumn has in store for us? As Solway cropper says watch the weather forecasts and be prepared!
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

About 5pm tonight.
The wife returns from her mams, think I have left the house tidy, always frosty when she returns  :(
