is there anyway to stop this happening, as i have found in the past?
-
my beets got so leggy they fell over  seems to be a mixture of lack of light and being too close to the radiator (getting hot and cold) which duffed mine up. the lack of light has me confused because they have foil around them and catch the sun ok.
:?:

Plenty of diffuse light. Direct sunlight is not a good idea leeky.

Thanks Aunt Sally. maybe a covering that is slightly opaque would help?
-
mine are sat in our spare bedroom at the moment... should i cover them with something then?
-
I think I am perhaps going to have to go with the middle of the bathroom in future. There are two windows in there and I can keep them away from the radiator at the same time.
Other alternatives are windows that dogs can and will get to (destroying the lot) or patio which happens to be by radiator so seeds get blasted with hot and cold.
-
... give them as much light as possible and keep turning them round, otherwise they get leggy and lean over!
If they're a bit leggy but otherwise OK, as I've had in the past, I just plant them quite deep. But they tend not to do as well as ones that haven't been stretched!

Yes could perhaps give that a go- thanks. OH works from home though and puts heating on in the day sometimes... will see how cold it is.
