Last weekend we finally got 2 weaners, it was very scary as we have never kept pigs before. I have been reading all about chickens (we got them in April (for the first time)) for a few months and have had loads of good advice. I thought it was time I registered and showed some pics of the pigs whilst they are still cute. The picture shows there first time outside the pen, they were a lovely clean pink - not any more! Pics show first night out and sometime the following day.
The intention is they go for a holiday just before Christmas and come back in a different format!!!! But before then it looks like we shall have lots of fun.

The will not stay that way for long. You will be amazed how quick they grow. What breed are they?

They look lovely :).

Thanks for the interest, The Boar is a Welsh breed and the sow is a lovely gentle Gloucester Old Spot, both live on a very nice smallholding and get spoilt rotten.

Pot or Pet?

they look great, good luck with them and if you rub their bellies they tip on their sides, it's fun! :)

Dare I ask if you will be including Bacon as part of your different format ? As I make all of my own bacon and gammons, so should you be looking for a realy easy recipe give me a shout when the time comes and I will be glad to pass the one I use on. :nowink:

Yes bacon is a definate and I really would appreciate your recipe. Thank you very much. Will also try sausages if I can get hold of a second hand machine, so if you have a good spicy recipe for those I would like that too.
Have also started stroking their bellies, they have turned in to the softest, daftest pigs and seem more interested in a stroke than their dinner. :nowink: We are having a lot of fun with them - and so far no problems.

We have really enjoyed looking after ours. This was me yesterday measuring them up, they are about 3 weeks ahead of the ones we had last winter, they are putting their food energy into growing rather than keeping warm.

Yes please too, I can get organic pork and wanted to try curing, found a pot yesterday to cure it in, so would be really interested - thanks :)

Sorry for the delay re. Bacon recipe, it will be here soon.
If you are looking to make sausages and have a spare hour or two (it will take you that long to get through them all ) have a look at http://home.pacbell.net/lpoli/index.hmt .
Hope I have put this link on right.
