I have read that i can put japanese onions in now,how are they bought seeds or sets ?,complete novice veg grower here

Hi teabag I would always buy them as sets nice and easy, you can grow them from seed but I never have.
Yes put them in now and they should be fine  :D

I've tried growing onions from seed and would not try again, it's sets for me all the way as it is the easy option.
Cheese makes everything better.

Wyevale usually have them, you have one in Bristol. May be worth phoning as it's getting towards the end of the planting season.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Like Ice, I tried them from seed (because I had a blonde moment and ordered seed instead of sets  :roll:  :oops: ), they all germinated OK - 54 seedlings from 60 seeds  :D - but then they just flopped over and did nothing. Scrapped them all and put sets in yesterday from the local garden centre.

We just picked up a kilo of red sets for £3.00 from a local garden center so it might be worth checking the smaller places.
