stolen chickens in somerset nr yeovil
« on: June 12, 2010, 13:07 »
hi, i just wanted to warn everyone as my chickens were stolen over night from the  field. trio of silver laced wynadottes and a trio of silver partridge dutch, they killed my blue bantam orpingtons. My other birds I found in the hedge row, they have stolen 5 houses and runs, electric netting, poultry crate, energiser the list goes on, they have totally cleared me out.   Just warned to warn anyone local to be careful, the police cant do much to help.

Oh AM there's so much of this sort of thing going on now, but to take EVERYTHING?  Is the field isolated then?  No neighbours?

I am so sorry for you    :( :(

Not that isolated, but a few farm houses around.
I am not sure if we will continue as i have lost so much money and not sure if i can replace the fencing and everything. my main concern at the moment is sorting out the hens left in the field which dont have any houses. they took everything including open bags of food,nd all the feeders and drinkers so i couldnt even feed them this morning

Thats is absolutely awful, my heart really goes out to you. If there is anything I can do - new birds etc. I know you live far away but could travel and meet up half way. Hugest hugs xxx

joyfull that is really kind, thanks for the offer but we are not sure what to do at the moment. We have moved the last pair out (that escaped) to a friends place until we can increase the security somehow. any ideas?

Dobermans?

seriously though, foxes you can keep out with electric fencing, but this bunch of morons took that too!  I really don't know what to suggest, but like Joy, if she comes down with a few birds, I can bring some too!

Don't have any spare coops though  :(

thanks grannie annie you have all been really kind, it is good to chat to people that understand. my seven year is really effected by the dutch trio going as they were really tame. one minute i want to sell all the chicks and call it a day till we can get our own land next to a house, and then some of me doesnt want me to let them win. we rent 5 acres of land in 3 different places and now i am worried about all the sites.

Set them up closer to the house (not too close) . You don't want to walk too far for eggs. Put dog in kennel outside.

Guinea fowl are good watch birds, bt I don't know how good they are at night.

I am so terribly sorry you have this problem.  I can't believe they took *everything*  :(  >:( >:(

My guinea fowl are very noisy - I have some eggs under hens at the moment so could let you have a couple of those after they hatch if you want but I doubt that the noise that they make would deter these type of people  :(
