The bench thingy under the television he made yesterday with oak bought by his grandfather 70 years ago to make coffins
I think he's done a lovely job

They always say..........." Good things come to those who wait"
-
Wow... Fantastic job Spana :D
-
Wow....you should have made a tv programme about it :D
-
Nice job, that is a proper roof truss.
Not like the modern gang nailed lolly sticks. :)
-
That's really beautiful. Such a labour of love. I like the ridge tile, the lovely beam and the piece of furniture. It all looks just stunning and like it's always been there. What a really rewarding project. He should be immensely proud :)

Yeh, and thats just what the architect put in the plans. OH asked him to change it for one in green oak. The artichoke said did we know it would cost a fortune and thats if we could find someone to make it. OH said he needn't worry about that, he'd make it himself. :tongue2: :D
-
I bet he loved saying that :D So nerrrrrrrrrrrr :D
-
That is one of the most impressive things ive seen, it looks amazing :D :D :D :D

It wasn't until i started to get the photos together that i sort of realised what he'd done. Its not massive but hes got a lovely finish to everything. Hes not been too well this year and has just started to be fit enough to work again.
I'm please you think it looks like it always been there compostqueen as he said he want to make it look like a converted pig sty
-
:D I bet it was good for his health as it was long term and kept him really focussed :)
-
Fantastic, well done to him :D
-
Is that a calf on the roof?
-
it looks lovely Spana, well done to him, now you can sit and enjoy :D
-
Is that a calf on the roof?
Its one of our South Devon cows with her calf. We had a ceramic artist make it for us as a joint Christmas pressie last year

Dont know about sit and enjoy Sue, the bit I have been waiting 10 years for comes next, the new kitchen
-
That is just beautiful. How wonderful to be able to make such a thing. I'm in awe :)
-
That's a lovely extension and just perfect off the kitchen. It really does look as though it was always there; not always easy to achieve.
The cow and calf ceramic is beautiful too .... very well done to everyone! :)
-
He's done a fantastic job, something to be very proud of. And it looks like it will withstand even a hurricane.
-
Now that's a job well done real craftsmanship
-
Thanks everyone, I've told him what you've all said  Just the skirting boards to fit and next year in the spring he is going to relay all the yard.
I think it is unusual for one person to have so many skills but its in his blood
-
stunning!

I like this for two reasons.
Firstly because you have taken on the work by yourself, which is exactly how I work and value others that do the same.
And secondly because you have used oak. I'm an oak framer by trade and love to see other peoples work. Very nice to. :)
-
Wonderful trade Eddie ...... I hope you're still getting plenty of work. People who work with timber always do it because they love it. :)

Without trying to derail the thread, thanks for the comment. I have just recently completed my 100th oak framed garage!! Sadly work isn't that great at the moment though, and I am also finding the work increasingly heavy and hard. :(

That was one of the reasons we ''retired, ha,ha'' to Cornwall. OH said he was getting to old to be clambering about over church roofs all day and as he worked alone had no one to give him a hand lifting things.
I would love an oak framed house, perhaps when we retire next time :D
Trouble is OH wont pay for labour so I probably wouldn't see it finished ;)
Hope work picks up for you soon Eddie :)
-
OH sounds as bad as me. :D We would get on well. :)
The problem is that any help that you get is next to useless! By the time you have explained things, waited for them to stop texting friends or making phone calls, dropped damaged your tools, you may as well have saved the money and done it quicker and better by yourself.
The downside for me is that I am only 44yrs years old and already have to lift my legs out of bed in the morning, and sit or lay down just to put my socks on. Probably just like OH, my knee and ankle joints are also very much the worse for wear. :(
BTW.. This was my 100th frame. Its nothing flash or fancy, just a simple garage/workshop.

Well if that's not a flash, fancy garage then I'm a Dutchman. :tongue2: We are just 'umble gardeners on this site. ;)

That is so beautiful
-
That is so beautiful Eddie!
I want to live in it :D
-
Just had a thought ........ could you make some mini ones ........ collector's items ? :)

I recall the joys of training an apprentice, and that was before mobile phone distractions. :nowink:
By the time they are of any use they qualify and leave.
And they call you a miserable old **** if they are out of arms reach. :D
