Early tomatoes
« on: May 28, 2020, 22:09 »
Having had my first tomato ripening on the kitchen windowsill (house cherry)  I'd like to know which variety ripens first for you this year.

When was your first tomato ready for picking?
What variety is it?
Where was it grown?
Was it sown from seed or bought as a plant? Any approximate dates would be a bonus
How would you rate the flavour? I appreciate that this can improve as the season progresses.

I'm have my other regulars (Galina, Stupice, Latah and Sungold) but I'm always on the look out for other varieties.

Well done PPL - quite an achievement!

I don't try to produce very early tomatoes, but of the ones I am growing (Gardener's Delight, Amish Paste, Sweet Million, and Red Alert) I can predict with confidence that Red Alert will, as ever. be the first to deliver the goods (always first to germinate, quickest to grow, and starting to flower now even though the plants are only about 9" tall and were only moved to their home in the cold frame about a week ago. Usually produce up to twice the yield per plant than any other variety too, touch wood.)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

Hi all I’m growing Gardener’s delight and Moneymaker.
At present I have small green tomatoes forming on the Gardener’s delight planted in growbags in my garden.
Point of interest the packet of Sutton’s seeds says packed year ending 30.6.03 sow by 6.2005.  :D :D :D
Don’t through your seeds away just see if they germinate  ;)
Cheers HH
Keep digging
