Hi!
I’m new here and just started work on my new allotment last week.
Lots of work and I’m very impatient, wish I could just clear it ASAP and get growing but I guess it’ll take a couple of years of work and trying a layout etc. It currently doesn’t have a shed either so that’s sth to look into building.
I made a start though, compost bin and a few plants are in!
Anyway, thought I say hello!
Anyone else here from Erith, SE London?!

Congratulations on your new allotment. It will take a bit of time to get everything as you wish, but that is all part of allotment life

Welcome. I'm a hugh fan of compost so thumbs up for making the compost bin one of the first things. I'm a bit on the impatient side as well but have learned over the years that steady as she goes often brings the best results. Saves your back as well.

Hi there, slow & steady wins the race plus you live to stand & garden another day if you don’t do it all & damage yourself. Compost as I’m sure you’ve already found out from any research you’ve done is the single best thing you can add to your soil, once it is well rotted be it manure or straight compost it adds so much as a mulch, keeps in moisture,saving you watering too much, keeps weeds down & feeds the soil. Hi, welcome to the forum. I'm just as impatient but it will all come together in time. Start to make plans, consider crop rotation and what you would like to grow. Exciting times!

This probably shows my priorities but here goes.
1. Shed
2. Single burner camping stove.
3. Kettle.
4. Chair.
The shed stops your car from becomming a mobile shed.
The rest allow you to take a breather and just enjoy your surroundings.
Oh and an old trick - a hole just a bit larger than a milk container, lined and filled with cold water keeps the milk fresh.

Hello and welcome to the forum. Having an allotment is wonderful, and I am sure you will not regret your decision, It is hard work, it is frustrating, it is sometimes disappointing, but on the whole, it is a fantastic place to go, do a bit of work, have a ponder and generally recharge your batteries

Oh, and you also get that great excitement of growing things you can actually eat and enjoy too
