Advice to repair roofing felt
« on: November 29, 2010, 19:24 »
Hi,
I need to repair some small tears in the roofing felt on my shed roof after it was moved.

I don't really want to replace the whole thing unless I have to as it is only a couple of months old. Does anyone know of anything I can use to reapir the tears.  I have some smaller patches of roofing felt but am not sure if there is anything I can use to 'glue' them on and if they will hold.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Vicky

Bituminous lap cement is the usual felt glue. Mastic from a tube may work for a few months.
Make sure there are no gaps on the top edge of any patches as any water that gets in will freeze and lift the patch..

Do not wear good clothes anywhere near a can of lap cement, it has a mind of its own. :)

I'll agree with that having got more paint-on bitumin over my jumper than on the gutter i was repairing.............plastic/poly gloves are also a good idea if you don't fancy being a member of the Black Hand Gang  :nowink:
