Hello all, I have been given a quantity of sawdust from a mate, can I compost it down? I have chook poo and horse poo available to mix with it. I'm not sure if the dust is from treated wood but I can check that out, if  it is obviously I won't be using it.

Yes it will compost but slowly compared to the rest, infact it may take a year or two to go properly, I put small amounts in the heap but not too much

you can use it for paths if you have a lot

Personally I'd be a bit wary of composting sawdust - if the wood has been treated with a preservative, you could be introducing all sorts of "who knows what" into the system. Obviously, if you know it hasn't been treated, I'd be inclined to mix with horse muck and leave for a couple fo years.

If the wood was pressure treated the answer is almost certainly "under no circumstances whatsoever".
