I was told a month NP, but the amberlinks ended up in theirs for 6 weeks until I could re-home the ex-batts and extend their house and get it ready for the new girls.  But I gradually reduced the infra-red until all they had was a red light bulb, then that was phased out too over another couple of weeks.

But that was coming into autumn time and it was getting chillier

We kept our last lot on for six weeks - raising the lamp a little each week to reduce temp. Then we started giving them daily trips outdoors for 10-15 mins and increasing it - a bit like hardening off plants really. However, this wa sin the summer so quite a bit warmer then so may be waiting nearer 8 weeks with the new lot just to let them get a few more feathers

Depending on the breed and time of year they should be off heat around day 35-42.

I usually drop the daytime heat around day 21-28, again depending on the weather.

I have a medium sized pet crate that I am going to surround with cardboard and fill the tray with sawdust. I am going to hang a mop head style fabric strip affair at one end and the heat lamp over the top. I do hope that this will work.
