Title: dahlia's
Post by: Eblana on October 28, 2012, 21:27
Folks,  we had our first frost yesterday and my dahlias have all turned black on top and the flowers have rotted :(    How soon should I dig them up to start to dry the tubers out?

they fry better if you don't dry them out first.....

We had our 1st proper frost this week & my Dahlias all turned black so I have lifted them & they are now drying out in my shed. Will they survive the winter in my shed or do I need to take extra measures?

I dug all my tubers up yesterday and they are now drying out in the PT - I will clean them off in about two weeks time and then put them in crates with old compost, sand etc. scattered around them and I will then move them to the cool dark shed until early next spring when I will pot them put to get them back into growth.
