hi, i have just pulled up my onions and they are drying in the greenhouse, how long till i cut the green tops off. do shallots need the same drying time or can i use them in chutney straight away

Don't cut the tops off, you can let rot & infection in.

Once they are properly dried & straw-like, you can string them up.

I always dry my shallots before using, mainly because I've too much else to do with fresh produce & I wait until later in the year before pickling.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

My o'h's Shallots have been rubbish this year, don't know why??  ???
