what about volunteer onions?

I've got a couple of rows of onions on my new plot.
they're definitely volunteers, because they're growing in little clumps of 6 ish.
What should do with them?

Ideas:
Eat them like shallots?
Split them and plant them like sets?
Just chuck them and churn the ground?

I pulled a couple up this evening and they're pretty solid. Most of them have  green shoots.

I'd use them like shallots.  Then you can start again with known onions ..

That's basically what Bob said today.
but he's told me to leave them in until "proper" harvest time in june.
It's not a problem - I've got plenty of other digging to do in.the meantime :
