Title: Orange spots on my peach tree.
Post by: Judd on March 16, 2013, 18:02
I planted a peach tree last year and thought it was dead but it does seem to have have a couple of very small green buds on it now.Whilst I was looking at it I noticed it has small orange dots on it,about the size of a pin head.
Any ideas on what it is and how to cure it?
Thanks

Peach trees are not prone to rust, so it could be bacterial fungus. Best to catch it ASAP before it becomes a serious problem that can eventually kill the tree. Ask at a garden centre for something to treat it with.

peach leaf curl. This disease is caused by a fungus known as Taphrina deformans. Symptoms are rusty spots on leaves which blister and curl in a deformed way.
It happens in cold and wet conditions - sounds about right with this weather  :( spray the tree with Bordeaux Mixture.

There are no leaves on the tree at all,the spots are on the main trunk on the bark.

It could be coral spot, which attacks branches that are already stressed

Have a look at this, to help see if it is or not

I think that could be it,I'll have to see if I can treat it now.The article says to cut back into healthy wood but the spots are on the main trunk and not too far from the base of the tree so I'll see if I can treat it with something.
If not, it's goodbye tree :(
Thanks for that.
