Title: is it wise to add ex batts to an established flock of hybrids?
Post by: wolverine on April 11, 2011, 17:21
Ok my mate down the pet shop has 2 ex batts recently rescued or something. saved from slaughter I think he said. He wants a fiver each. I'm not bothered about a fiver it's wether or not they will mess up the harmony in my flock ( 3 birds ) is that a flock ?
they are hybrids and are all doing well. I don't have room to quarentine
I think I'm answering my own question here but is it really daft to just "go for it"?

I wouldn't advise it if you dont have the room to quarrenteen them and yes the calm harmony that you have at the moment will be upset. Ex batts are friendly to humans, inquisitive but also very pushy and will soon try to become the top hens - this is purely because they have had to fight for room, feed , water and space in their previous sad lives.
