Title: Net over the doorway.
Post by: Lardman on August 01, 2018, 18:47
Has anyone come up with a better solution for netting the geenhouse doorway than just clothes pegging debris netting over it ? I was going to make some mesh panels to replace the glass in the door but I'm concerned about not being able to close things up properly during windy weather.

B and M superstores magnetic fly screen comes in black. Hang curtain on length of curtain wire which can be attached (with those little eye or hook screws) to the inside of the greenhouse doorway. I have hooked the eyes over a conveniently placed nut. Then get some self adhesive velro...put a strip down each side of the door frame and on each side of the curtain and stick!!!! the bottom edge of the curtain can be kept in place with a lump of wood. Its like magic Lardy and only costs £2.99. It's one of the best ideas I have ever had at the lotty. I hope you can visualise what I have done. I can always try and take a picture. (I'm not very good at that bit but I can try.)

I just leave mine open so birds can fly out and the hedgehog can come and go

Doesn't the netting stop pollinating insects getting in?

Apparently not. The door is open while we are there and the automatic window is open most of the summer. I also leave a bit of a space at the top of the curtain.
My main aim is to keep out larger creatures which like to eat my produce or make a comfy home.

Everything in there is self pollinating a bit of air movement should sort things out.

I know the sort of thing you're referring to Fairy Plotmother but I've not seen any at that price. I'll look again.

Id prefer to but unfortunately I get visitors of a less welcome nature.

When I were "Out East" many moons ago and when the 'ring pull' of beer cans came away from the cans of beer, a chap saved all these, linked them together and made a door screen! He said he hadn't drunk them all but...

Cheers,  Tony.
