Successful melons

We've had a few ups and downs on our first year on the plot.  Lots of spuds and carrots, a few beetroot, some nice strawbs.

The highpoint though has to be the melons!

I've grown two Galia from plants, and two Piel de Sapo (the one that looks like a green rugby ball) from seed bought in Spain.  So far we've had three ripe Galia with SUCH a flavour and aroma!  There are three more ripening.  There are also two Piel de Sapo ripening up.

They were grown in frames, with my usual standards of casual neglect.  The frames cost £20 for the timber, which means that each melon we've eaten so far has cost about £6.66!

As a harvest it's no great shakes.  As proof of concept though it's a wild success and I'm very pleased.  I shall definitely be doing more melons next year and probably giving them some more attention too.  

SWMBO is delighted, which also makes it all worthwhile.
