Sweetcorn again
« on: June 05, 2020, 08:43 »
I regularly grow sweetcorn and know that it strips a lot of nutrient from your ground , does it benefit the sweetcorn at all to be fed Bonemeal or dried blood, fish and bonemeal.
Usually manure the ground before planting and occsionally give the plants a liquid feed.
I also soil up the base of stems as they develop to help them keep building roots.

I love sweetcorn and they do like lots of nutrients. My best advice is to look at the RHS website and see what they recommend.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

Thanks for the link 1st grew it in the back garden around 1982 , but I know that my memory is not as good as it used to be. Sprinkled some dried blood fish and bonemeal around there bases to day will get washed in by the rain and then I will earth them up a little. They where planted out really early for the north of england [26th April] the ones I had under poly are miles ahead of the others I had in bottles. The bottle protected ones looked so poorly I sowed some seed direct oin the ground typical they have recovered and the extra seed are now showing.

They look pretty good though.  I take it the slightly larger ones at the back are the ones you had under bottles and the direct sown in front.  A few extra sweetcorn to eat are no hardship and I reckon you could be in for a decent crop there :)
