We put the sets out a couple of weeks ago but they haven't done anything yet. I'm not normally this impatient, but I notice that our neighbour, who planted on the same day, has a good 4 inches of greenery going on hers.
Cheers.

Your neighbour's could have been just ready to sprout anyway.
I'm a little bit behind this year, and have only just been to the nursery, some of the sets aleady had 2" shoots on them, so I could have bought those and had instant sprouting sets with no waiting!

Or have already started sprouting in store, which is the bad news, you just watch how many will bolt next year and lean back smug. 8)
They will grow some roots first. :)

I planted Radar and Senshyu, most had sprouted 9 days later.
Must admit I didn't expect the growth to be so quick.
After 3 weeks they are about 6 ins tall. 2 or 3 have only just broke the surface but the other 100 or so are going well. :D  :D

I've just planted mine for better or worse.
The thing is with autumn onions, you don't want much growth on them before frost, so take your pick about planting. 8)

I checked on Tues and two have shoots now. Crisis over

We put a load in a couple of weeks back and had quiet a few left over so gave them to a friend a few plot's down and they were all planted the same day but the thing is our's are twice the size of our friends. They all came from the same nursery and were all in the same bag. :?
I'm not moaning but just curious.

I've got ours to put them in the weekend or am i to late ???

Wouldn't worry about an "exact" time to plant them. Simple view (mine) is they are for Autumn planting and that ends on Dec 21 (+- a day or two).
As we cannot control the weather mine may have gone in too early, yours may just be right. :D Find out next year.
Reason mine went in a while back was that I went to Canada and decided to get them in before I went.

I haven't had time to plant mine yet. Got them about 3 weeks ago and they're starting to shoot in the little net bag they came in
With any luck I'll get them in this weekend & hopefully they might be ok!
Still no garlic in either! I planted it last year in sept and had a great crop in june, if I remember correctly ... must get that in too. Will pelleted chicken manure be ok for the garlic as it's all I've got at the moment?
