as title suggests i have some beetroot i started in modules, as i had poor germination on the ones i sowed direct.

just wondered  if i can split the modules that have got 2 or more seedlings per module? or should i just thin out?

You risk root disturbance in doing so.

I only sow direct, but I never thin those until they are of usable size - about that of a golf ball. I find that they'll push each other aside and at that size the thinning are useful!

I do as above too. I never believe in wasting I always wait till they sort themselves out and then use what needs to be removed for more space.

sounds like a good plan to me, i'll follow the advice.

have i still got time to start some off for this season? i think i'm having difficulty with poor seed maybe and left pretty short.

yes i always plant in trays then transplant into rows at correct spacing never have a prob

I think you're still ok to start for this season. You may only get small beetroot but that's how I like to harvest them anyway. Maybe buy fresh seed?

The packet I bought today said sow by end of July, so I hope it's not too late!

i'll get on it today then.

unfortunately i have absolutely loads of seed left, and don't really want to buy a new pack if they are going to do the same by next season.

i understand the root disturbance issue but can i sow in seed trays and plant any seedlings up into modules? save me wasting shed loads of compost.

as i said in prev post i always plant in trays and transplanted  beets do not suffer from root disturbance when seedlings
