Title: Honda FG201 Honda GXV50 engine starting problems
Post by: greenhead on May 10, 2016, 21:01
Hi,  I have found over the last year of experimentation the GXV50, 4 stroke engine requires super refined petrol with a shelf life of 5 years costing £22 per 5 liters!!  Standard supermarket petrol is useless in this engine.  The carb is the problem!!  jets are very fine and block up easily with supermarket (dirty) fuel.  Last year the carb was ultrasonic cleaned 5 times and still NBG on regular petrol

How Honda have got away with this engine that only runs on premium grade fuel is beyond me!!

The rotovater is good if you can afford the fuel cost.

Mike, try it with another jet, or take garden machine repairer they will get over the problem,,

Thank you Wapello,

The machine has been back to the Honda appointed repairer 5 times already!!  The carb has been cleaned each time to no avail.  They say the pump petrol is to blame!!  There appears to be no way to complain to Honda direct other than through the agent.  There is no problem using the high-spec fuel.  I have a lawn mower powered with a much larger Honda engine and that is fine on regular petrol. Weird.

I know that this is an old thread, however, I have had a FG200 for 16 years and have only used pump petrol with no problems.  I always turn the fuel tap off and let the carb run dry .

Sound like a jet to me too, a high octane won't solve it, or more refined fuel
