Heres my list

Butternuts doing nothing , yet.

Blue Hubbard one squash the size of 2 fists

Festivals very small fruit

Holligans lots of small fruit

Uchi kuchi loads of vines with loads of medium size fruits. These must love my plot cant beleave how well they are doing.
I'm very important. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.

Holligans?

Do you really encourage those on your plot?

My sister's visit a few years back was bad enough - she helped weed... left the lot in and removed the plants     ::)

Note to me: Look up "hooligan squash" - sounds like fun  ;)

Wait a sec - just been down the allotment and spotted my first butternut squash fruit. It's about two inches long, with a great big yellow hat!

Wahay - we're off. :tongue2:

At my allotment there's a lady with a plot quite near us, who grows amazing squash, so I asked her for her secrets. She swore by a strain of Butternut called 'Sprinter', I think it was, above the other names that I think are more common.

We grew a (non-butternut) squash last year, and again this, called Anna Schwartz from Real Seeds, and they not only grew amazingly fast and huge but also were if anything more tasty than butternuts.

Last year in the garden -- butternuts  :tongue2: :tongue2:

This year on the plot (just stuffed them in in a corner as didn't have enough space in the lovingly prepared bed for squahes & pumpkins  ) Excellent so far. Lots of fruit, some about 6 inches long, but all sorts of different shapes from squarish ones to ones with a neck.

Hoping for lots to eat  :D :D :D

It does keep really well though - still have three from last year & it roasts beautifully.

Have you every mixed it with carrot or sweet potato - great diced, bolied together then mashed and finished off in the oven / under the grill with a knob of butter to serve.  ;)

BNS - glad to see mine arn't the only ones not performing!  When I have some fruit I will just cut them in half lengthways and bung them in the oven (with a couple of cloves of garlic) and enjoy (like jacket potatoes).
