I am preparing to have about 4 hens at the top of my garden but wondered if we are allowed to have them.
Do I need to let the Enviromental Health know?
Has anyone had any problems with them?
Is there anywhere else I need to check with before getting the chooks?

You don't need to let enviromental health know!!
As long as it doesn't say on your deeds of your house that you CAN'T keep poultry then you need tell no-one.
We have rats in the garden coming from next door.....we have pest control but still they come and in daylight. We have informed E H and because we have poultry it's our own fault. >:(....I digress sorry. Basically don't tell them!!!!!

Hi, is it a privately owned house or rented? If rented you will need to ask your landlords. If it is privately owned then do your deeds say anything about poultry on them? Most people say they are pets and have no problems so long as you practice good housekeeping and don't get a cockerel :D. joy xx

i spoke to the council before i got mine, and basically they were not interested, ours is a private house, and according to the council, as long as there is no noise problem then they are not bothered.
as has been said, as long as there is nothing in the deeds, then you dont need to tell them

Also a good idea to tell the neighbours, with the offer of eggs of course (how could they refuse :happy:) After all, they will be the ones affected if there is a problem.

Oh I have allready bribed the neighbours lol (well the immediate ones anyway) :D
We are lucky that we have a longggggggggggg garden with allotments the other side of the fence and chickens too lol.
