« on: June 24, 2008, 16:36 »
Hi there,

Have been away for ages as pc blew up  :( Am back now and trying to catch up on everything that has been going on!!

I was wondering if anyone knows if this is ok for ducks to drink as well as chucks as ours all share water.

Am using this as i have a poorly ex batt and from all the symptoms i have read about Coccidiosis seems to fit the bill

Thanks in advance for your advice  :)

If it is as you suspect, you need to get some stuff from the vet to put in your birds water.

I was told just the other day that the coccidiosis treatments in pellets are fatal to ducks.

I don't know if this is a general rule for all coccidiosis treatment products but I wouldn't chance it.

I would try to dose the chickens separately.

I've just found this info which seems to say it is only the stuff in the pellets which is harmful. Might be worth a phone call to the manufacturers to check.

Many of them are toxic to ducks and ducks rarely suffer from coccidiosis. One of the safest for ducks is amprolium (there are a couple of brand names). the problem is that the dosage should be reduced to about 1/3 for ducks as they drink so much water meaning that your chicken might be under treated. Overdose can be fatal. You probably need to separate them while tratment is ongoing.
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.
