Hi, time for the next plant ID thread I think 

Neighbour has two shrubs in his front garden that we'd like to
a) identify
b) decide the best time of year to try to move without killing them

Here goes for number one:

I'm still thinking about the first, but the 2nd looks like Gaura 'the bride'

First one is Rose of Sharon - Hypericum calycinum

Thanks, I'd wondered about evening primrose for the first but wasn't convinced.

Number one, hypericum St John's Wort....poisonous, but somewhat pretty at times.  hard to eradicate... if you're excellent at chemistry you could distill it to make an antidepressant, but you'd get depressed trying! NOT to be recommended :blink:

Not sure about number 2.  Could be a variant of Sweet William?

Hi, the first one is difinitely Hypericum, and the second in possibly Kaffir lily, very common in Cornwall and the south west.

Really not sure about the 2nd one but the first looks very much like my hypericum hidcote.
This is a shrub variety of the rose of sharon and grows about 4 - 5 foot tall after several years. 

The one in your picture looks quite young so may transplant, just make sure you give it plenty of room as it will be as wide as it is tall.

Yes, the first one is definitely hypericum calycinum hidcote (Rose of Sharon).

It's several - if not many years old - having been in the front garden of a lady who went into residential accommodation 2 years ago (and I knew the house for 5 years before that).
