red spider mite
« on: September 17, 2007, 18:24 »
Hi all, i have a probem and wonder if anyone can help, not on my allotment but it is relevant.  I have red spider mite on strawberries in my potting shed (which i was going to move to the allotment, the strawberries, not the shed) and also on a Robinia (twisty Baby) in my garden.  Have tried bifenthrin with some success on the strawberries (to add insult to injury they also now have mildew) but no success on the Robinia, i think due to the curled up leaves, which are a feature of this tree, so the chemical is not hitting the target.   Any ideas?  i know the frosts will kill most of them soon but they will overwinter and come back next Summer and they are going to kill the tree i fear.  Should i ditch the strawberries rather than taking mites to my allotment?

Simon

Thanks.  I will try a predatory mite next year on the tree and maybe the sulphur candle for the shed.  Will take your advice Muntjac and dump the strawbs and start afresh.
