Thanks Learner  :).

Our snail looks like the pond snail in the Snail Species link  :).

Is that good or bad news for the plants?

Oh dear, poor plant  ::) .

Well, we couldn't find Brian for about a week and came to the conclusion that the minnows ate him.
But yesterday he emerged from his hiding place (slots in the filter) and has laid eggs all over the filter  ::).
When I had a closer look, there was also a mini Brian!!

I guess we are now going to get a tank full of Brians  ::)

Are you sure you want to go through all this every time you have a snail? You may have thousands by the end of the year! :D

I rest my case!

I'm sorry to announce that we now have thousands of Brians ::) .

Learner, tosca ect. were right, I soon wont be able to see the 5 minnows because there are so many snails  ::) :tongue2: :tongue2:.

I don't even know which is the original Brian.

One is enormous and doesn't look like a pond snail at all. We can't work it out because the original Brian who is a pond snail has produced all of these and the enormous one is more than double his size and looks completely different to him.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to why it's soooooo different?

Anyone want to suggest a name or two for the enormous snail? ;)

Both snails should be called Pests...... and the different looking one has been there all the time getting ready to munch holes in your plants.  ::)

I'm sure Brian the pond snail was the only one to begin with.

I've been quite surprised because the snails don't really eat the plant (thankfully) they eat the left over fish food off the stones at the bottom of the tank

Useful... some people, with tropical tank set-ups, like to have catfish to do that... a bit more entertaining than snails I think.

Once I get some more suggestions of names for the enormous snail, I'll put them into a hat and the one I pull out will be his/her name  :).
So keep 'em coming  ;)
