Had a glut, so tried making jam with them following a recipe from the Internet. I'm afraid it didn't turn out too well, far too sweet and hasn't set well (despite boiling for over an hour!) This is my first year making jam and, so far, I've had no problems before this. The recipe said:

1 kilo peeled pears
1 kilo sugar
1ltr water
2 lemons (juice and zest)

Any ideas? or any better recipes?

Pears are usually lacking in pectin and acid. You've rectified the acid with the lemon but, if I was going to attempt it, I would have made my own pectin stock with cooking apples or used Jam Sugar, Liquid Pectin or Dried Pectin.

Thanks Val, I'll add some apple next time. I've made 6 jars of 'sweet pear syrup' but it won't go to waste - tasted lovely on my porridge this morning
