After you've harvested your spuds, can you dig the greenery back into the soil to compost there, or must you put it on the compost heap :?:

I cart it off as a blight control measure.  Dunno if it is strictly necessary but I do it anyway.

Mine goes into the compost as well, otherwise the rotovator has a terrible time with the stems wrapping around tines and such when you do fall prep work.

if ya wanan let it die down natural ya can n then bin it . we use  acid here on the farm to burn it off and then it dont clog machinery.i just chop em off at the soil leave me tattiers a week n then lift em   leave em a full 2 days on the soil  to dry and skin up then store em in hessian sacks
