I want to make some cranberry based chutneys to put away for Christmas.  Anyone spotted any dried/frozen cranberries at decent prices in the shops yet?
Are we nearly there yet?

That's what I thought, it's a pain though as I'd like to do them now and put them away to mature.  :?

I spotted dried cranberries in Lidl yesterday, but there was no price on them :(  and no one to ask.  If you have one local might be worth a look if not i can have another look next Wednesday for you :D

Julian Graves Ltd do dried ones but I can't remember how much I paid for them.  Also I see from the packet they are already sweetened and in fact sugar is the first ingredient!  Might not be what you're after in that case.

Grabbed some the other day when I was in.  They're £1.79 for the 200g pack of dried cranberries.  :D

Cranberry and red onion relish - slice 2 red onions thinly, melt 1 oz butter in a pan and fry onions until soft, about 8 - 10 mins.  Add rind and juice of 1 orange and cook 5 mins.  Add 1lb fresh or frozen cranberries together with 4 oz sugar, 4 tbsp red wine vinegar, 4 tbsp red wine, pinch cinnamon and 1/2 tsp allspice.  Heat until just boiling, reduce heat and simmer until syrupy, about 15 mins.  Pot i n sterilized small jars with a circle of greasproof paper.  Makes about 3 12oz jars.
