Time To Think About Next Year

OK, now that everyone is on top of their plots & veg patches, thoughts turn to next year's crops.

Have just sown the seed for the spring caulis, cabbage to follow next month.

What do you mean - not thought about it?

Come on, the days start to get shorter in less than two weeks!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Scary thought, just about coping with this year!
Have sown January Kings and next summer's Sutton Dwarfs so far.
Is there much that can be overwintered, apart from cabbages/caulis and broad beans?

leeks, parsnips, and if you sow a late carrot around the end of july they can stay in the ground (weather permiting)
feed the soil not the plants
organicish
you learn gardening by making mistakes

Oh yes, forgot about leeks. And garlic - that's a must. Thanks!
Sprouts too, just bought some plants.
As Terry Walton said, we're not hedgehogs, we have to eat in winter too, so forward planning is essential if we're to avoid bare plots for half the year.
Even though it does seem odd thinking about next year's veg when we're all up to our ears in this year's

Bedford Fill-Basket perhaps?

The leeks will fill out - don't panic!

You need to plan at least 3 years ahead. You cannot do anything to soon in gardening, just make sure you have protection when needed

Mine are in and really it's getting a bit (very) late for sowing for this year's harvest.

What I'm sowing now are for late summer/autumn planting to harvest in spring.

In the main, apart from fast growing crops like lettuce, what's being sown now is for next year.

Lots of goodies I hope; as this is my first year I havn`nt been as adventurous as maybe others have; but now I have a little more confidence and have seen some good results, next year I would like to experiment more.
I have just sent an order off to Thompson & Morgan as they have a half price seed sale on - Spent lots & lots
