Have just bought a new one, and the rubber smell is terrible.   It takes a couple of days to get the smell off hands, arms etc.    A friend tried to wash hers in soapy water, but it just curled up and stuck together.
I have looked on Google, but don't see any good answers.

Crikey Mrs. B, hard to keep with you sometimes (from the title I thought you must be referring to some sort of dodgy rock group protesting about latex production!)

Not an expert on rubber goods but I seem to remember that the pong from bicycle inner tubes was much less noticeable after they had been stored for a while. Hard to think of a quick fix that wouldn't damage the rubber.

Yes the smell is like an inner tube.   So far, I have put it in a paper bag with lots of talc, and left overnight, today its on the washing line.
Maybe I will have to get the type that have grip handles and try to avoid the rubbery bits.
I suppose I could use some old tights, or something like that, look silly though at the Class
